Slurry is becoming an increasingly important feedstock for biogas and biomethane plants. But not all slurry is the same: dry matter content and nutrient levels can vary from one delivery to the next. For the resulting digestate, too, knowing its composition is relevant, for example for evaluations and further agricultural use.
To determine these values, samples are currently often taken and then analysed in a laboratory.
With Biotaktix SubstratScan we bring the analysis directly to the biogas plant. Using an NIR sensor, slurry and digestate are analysed within the plant's pipework and the measured values are automatically transmitted to Biotaktix.
NIR technology on the biogas plant
Near-infrared spectroscopy – NIR for short – makes it possible to determine the properties of organic materials using light. The material is illuminated with near-infrared light. From the characteristic spectrum of the reflected light, various parameters can be derived with the help of suitable calibrations.
In agriculture, this technology is already in practical use, for example with NIR sensors on slurry tankers.
SubstratScan brings the technology to the biogas plant as a complete solution. The system consists of a pipe adapter with NIR sensor, an evaluation unit and the technical connection to the Biotaktix platform.
Linking measured values directly with operating data
The decisive step takes place after the actual measurement: the values obtained are automatically transmitted to Biotaktix.
For delivered slurry, the measured values can be assigned to individual deliveries and evaluated together with the weighing and operating data already available. For digestate, the analysis values are likewise available directly in the platform.
The results can then be viewed at any time in the web browser and via the Biotaktix app. This makes the measured values available, for example, for evaluations, reports and analyses.
