New from Biotaktix

SubstratScan

Automated analysis of slurry and digestate at biogas plants.

The Biotaktix team with the SubstratScan sensor

Know what is in it.

As a plant operator, if you want to know what your slurry or digestate actually contains, you have had to take a sample, send it to a laboratory and wait for the result. By then the substrate has long since gone into the digester or onto the field. And because every sample costs money and time, measurements are rare — in practice, people work with standard table values instead, which do not exactly match the reality at the plant.

Measurement in the substrate flow

SubstratScan — sensor pipe section with flange connection
1

Fit the sensor

The SubstratScan sensor measures by NIR directly in the substrate flow — no sampling, no consumables.

2

Analyze automatically

Measurement runs continuously during operation and delivers the result in seconds.

3

Use it directly in Biotaktix

All values end up in your Biotaktix software automatically — linked to the weighbridge tickets, in digestate management, in records or for feeding.

DM Dry matter % by weight
N Total nitrogen & NH₄‑N kg/m³
P₂O₅ Phosphate kg/m³
K₂O Potassium oxide kg/m³

Figures you can work with

Bill by dry matter

Detect and avoid excess water.

Value digestate correctly

Nutrient-based delivery of digestate.

Make deliveries comparable

For every supplier and every batch you see the quality that actually arrives — instead of applying the same table value to all of them.

No extra work

No sampling, no posting of laboratory results. Everything runs automatically in the background.

Frequently asked questions

How does the sensor work?

The sensor is based on NIR technology (near-infrared spectroscopy). The same technology has already proven itself in practice on slurry tankers.

Can SubstratScan be retrofitted to existing plants?

Yes. SubstratScan is installed as a pipe section in existing lines — where slurry or digestate flows anyway.

Do I have to take samples or refill consumables?

No. Measurement runs directly in the substrate flow — no sampling, no chemicals, no consumables.

Do I need Biotaktix for it?

The evaluation runs in the Biotaktix platform. There, the readings are linked to weighbridge tickets, feedings and digestate deliveries — without a second system or Excel files.

When will SubstratScan be available for my plant?

We are showing SubstratScan for the first time at EnergyDecentral / EuroTier 2026 in Hall 25 at Stand D13. We are happy to show you what the sensor system can do beforehand in a meeting. Get in touch to arrange a presentation or a meeting at the trade fair.
