Inventory Management

How much is in the silo? At a glance.

Inventory Management – How much is in the silo? At a glance.

Biotaktix automatically tracks the inventories of all substrates and storage locations in real time – no manual calculations, no spreadsheets, no estimates. Every delivery, every withdrawal, every feeding is immediately reflected in the inventory. What is in the silo, the mobile silo or the digestate storage is always visible at a glance.

The problem with classic methods

Many plants still manage their inventories today in Excel sheets, handwritten notes or in the head of the plant manager. That works – until it doesn’t: During the harvest, when hundreds of tons of substrate arrive daily, every manual inventory becomes a source of error. Who last updated the sheet, whether the latest feeding has been recorded, how much actually remains in the silo – these questions cost time and create uncertainty.

Moreover, manual inventories are always historical data. Accounting, sustainability reporting and investor reports as well as mass balance require reliable, up‑to‑date numbers.

Inventory management that runs alongside

Biotaktix links all inventory‑relevant processes directly to storage management: weighbridge tickets, feeding logs and deliveries automatically flow into the inventory calculation. The inventory is created as a by‑product of the normal operating process.

  1. Inventories of all substrates and storage locations in real time
  2. Automatic updating through weighings, feedings and withdrawals
  3. Overview of all storage locations at a glance – mobile silo, liquid storage, outdoor storage
  4. Robust data as a basis for mass balance, billing and sustainability reporting
  5. Access anytime – in the office, via browser or on the mobile app

Case study: VORN Bioenergy, Ferrara (Italy)

VORN Bioenergy is currently building a biomethane plant in northern Italy, Ferrara, with a capacity of 1,000 Nm³ biomethane per hour – roughly 8.5 million Nm³ per year, enough to thermally supply about 7,000 households. Predominantly plant‑based and animal residues are used.

Biotaktix was introduced already during the construction phase: Between the commissioning of the scale and the first harvest day only a few days passed – in this window the platform was fully set up, including hardware integration of the scale, label printer and receipt printer. From day one, all material flows, inventories and qualities were recorded digitally. The multilingual user interface enables smooth use by German and Italian staff; a direct interface to the ERP system Microsoft Business Central ensures seamless processes.

Söhnke Neumann, Director Feedstock Management at VORN Bioenergy, describes the approach: “Thanks to Biotaktix, the processes at our plants across Europe have been digital and traceable from day one.”
